Conversations on Lifestyle, Passions and Hustles. Sharing insights, understanding and lifestyle stories. With the intent to bring you: things which will enable you, things which will inspire you and things which will motivate you to pursue these yourself.
In Episode 279 of the Further Your Lifestyle podcast, host Chris reflects on getting frustrated by not having the next result yet while forgetting that current results were once the goal, then encourages listeners to shift from “I can’t” to understanding why they can. Using his business growth from under $500K to a $750K run rate, he explains how progress comes from breaking goals into basic inputs (price and volume), doing the math, and working backward with repeated “why” questions to identify the real obstacles—like sourcing, systems, staffing, and customer acquisition. He compares this process to training for a 10K by building distance and reps over time, emphasizing that results come from consistent tangible work, discomfort, and long-term persistence, and invites listeners to share what’s holding them back.

Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to the Further Your Lifestyle Podcast Conversations on Lifestyle Passions and Hustles. My name's Chris. I am your host, and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 279 today, and we're we're keeping it kind of short and sweet. We've been doing this for the last couple of weeks and just kind of thinking about, talking about, and sharing some of the things that I've been thinking about and looking at and challenging myself with. And I again I love to bring this back to you folks, whoever's listening, to get a little bit of food for thought and something to think about and maybe take and run with it, or get some inspiration, or maybe maybe it doesn't apply to you, and that's fine too. But I feel like as I'm trying to further my own lifestyle, this is the best way that I can help you is just share what I'm doing and what I'm working through and what I'm dealing with. So today we're talking about understanding why you can. Now, this is a very broad, but also it's it's a very simple topic, and it's around the, I guess, what we we tend to overcomplicate. Now, the whole premise behind all of this is I get frustrated when I don't have the results that I want. But then when I zoom out and realize, well, the results that I have right now that I'm getting are the results that I wanted a year or two years ago, and now I have them, but I'm not focused on that. I'm focused on that next thing always. And I think it's really important that we we do separate the two of understandings like, okay, how we got here, but also then thinking about, well, why can't you get what you want? Right? Why, why can't you? And you need to understand why you can, right? Because we're always asking ourselves, how do I do this? How do I do that? And a lot of the time it is comes down to basic math or basic understanding or breaking it down. And that's what I want to kind of do today. Very short and sweet. So if you enjoy these episodes, I will ask, make sure you hit like, subscribe, and you can send a comment or drop a comment down below here on the YouTube as well, and let us know how you're experiencing these episodes, or if you want to share your own opinion or thoughts, or just how you took the episode, that'd be great. You can also share it with anyone as well. So we're gonna roll the intro and we're gonna get straight into it.
So I think I think for me, as I kind of alluded to, like one thing that I've always struggled with, and it's a frustration part of one, I'm frustrated that I'm having to go through that process, but also I get frustrated thinking about, okay, well, I don't have the result that I want. And before I get into that, the first thing that I mentioned was that if you actually take a step back, and now this is very relevant to me because it's part of my business journey or whatever, right? But where I am now is where I wanted to be a year or two years ago. And it took me two years to get there because I knew that, okay, I want to be earning when I was earning $100,000 a year, I knew I wanted to be earning $200,000. And then it's like, how do we get to $300? How do we get to $400? How do we get to $500? And now it's like, how do we get to $750? How do we get to a million dollars per year? And that's always the journey. Now, you could just say, well, go do a million dollars in a year. And of course, you, I mean, by all means, there's nothing stopping you to do that. But a lot of the time, these things will take time because we don't know how to do them. And the way to find out how to do them is to go out there, figure it out one step, one at a time, one day at a time, and then you learn, you learn, you compound, you compound, and then you're able to get the results quicker and you're able to execute on top of that. What I know I can do, I mean, I've built a business at the moment where we're turning over year, uh, a year run rate of around $750,000. But two years ago, that was less than $500. Right? And but now we know how to do the 500. Now we're working towards that $750,000 and once we know how to do that, it's like, how do we keep doing more of the same? Right. And it's it's just a constant go, go, go. So if we actually get to the premise today of like understand why you can't, a lot of the people say, I can't do that, or I don't know how to do it. That's that's the answer. You you don't know how to do it. So, what does it look like if you knew how to do this? Right. And again, I can't I can't put myself in your shoes of your situation because I I don't know who I'm talking to in terms of what it is that you're trying to achieve. If it is you're going after you wanted to do your first 10K run, or you do want to have a business where you're turning over $100,000 a year or profiting $100,000 a year, or maybe you want to get that promotion that you're working towards. A lot of the time, and I learned this back when I was consulting, is we need to kind of do this left-click analysis, basically stepping backwards of asking yourself why, why, why?
And it's the big question, right? That kind of answers everything. Of like, okay, so why can't I get a million dollars in sales per year? Well, at the moment, we're only doing enough that gets us to 750,000. So what's the difference there? 250,000. How do I get to that next level of 250,000? I mean, you break it down, it's like you either need to be selling more items or you need to be selling items at a higher ASP, right? That's that's really all it is, right? I could sell one item at a million dollars, or I could sell a hundred thousand items at a at a different price, right? It's it it really comes down to what it is that you're selling and the price or the volume. And that's the only thing I have to solve
for. But then you're like, okay, so let's say I need to sell another, I think, I think to do a million dollars a year, it's it's it's going to be like $73,000 every month, right? So if you break that down, if it's $73,000 every month or a million, let's just go a million divided by $52. So it's like $19,230 a week, right? And if you break that down per day, it's $2,739 per day, right? So $270,739, our ASP at the moment divided by $45, means we have to be doing 60 items a day. We have to be selling 60 items at $45 a day. So it's like, how do we do that? How do we do that? So it's either need to list more, I need to have more product that is worth that, that is going to sell for that and sell quickly. So, okay, so you know that. So then how do we get that? We have to source that. Where do we source it from? It's going out, researching of what are those items that we need, how do we acquire those items? And this is this is the hard work of it. It's actually going out there, learning, researching, building reputations, reaching out, cold outreaches, working with businesses, trying to get new contracts, and it's literally going out and doing the work to get the outcome that
you want. And people say, I don't know how to do that. It's like, well, most people don't, but that's why they get ahead of you because they're willing to go figure out how to do it. So you need to understand why you can achieve these results, and you need to understand why you're not you know achieving these results. The reason why you're probably not achieving these results is because you're not doing the things that get you that outcome in the first place, right? If if I list a thousand items today at $45 each, that's $45,000 in opportunity, right? And we sell 20%, right? Well, that's going to be 200 items. That's going to get me my target, right? If but I cannot how is it possible to do 1,000 items every day? Right now, no, it's not. To achieve that, I would need more people, I would need more stock, I would need better systems, I would need the ability to be able to process that. So the point is, there's always reasons behind it. They're not excuses, they're actually just stepping stones. They're, I guess, not gaps, they're kind of obstacles in front of what you're trying to achieve.
If you're training to do a 10K run, right, go do a 1K, go do a 5K, do a couple of 5Ks, do a 7K, do an 8K, do more running, do more volume of 1K through the week. Get your body attuned and customed to running the volume, running the distance. And then when you do it, go to do the 10k, it's not as hard. If you go do the 10K, you could actually probably still do the 10K with less training or not much training at all. It's going to hurt, it's going to be bad. You might injure yourself, but it's no different if you're going to, okay, I'm going to go try and make a million dollars, or I'm going to go try and make a hundred thousand dollars, or I'm going to go try and make ten thousand dollars this month, right? You might only get to five thousand and you do not finish. Hey, you still did 5,000. And the point is, we we set these big ambitious goals, but the reality is, is they're not all going to happen like that. They're not going to happen overnight. For me, me being able to achieve the results that I'm achieving today in one year has taken me years and years and years of experience. Now, I've only been doing this for six years. What happens in the next six years? Where do we go to? Do I plummet? Do I continue to scale? Do I continue to grow? That's on me. But it's with anything that you want. If you want something and you're not doing the tangible work that gets the outcome, the input for the output, then that is why you are not getting the results. And it is why you can still get the results if you go do that work. Now, I know this seems very simple, very straightforward, and it's sometimes becomes a little bit cliched, but that's the point, right? Who's who's out here doing the work and getting the results? The ones that you see was like, I wish I had that. And that's because they're putting their blood, sweat, and tears in doing it. Now, there is sometimes when we look and it and it looks like people make things look easy. I guarantee you it's not what you think. It's been a journey, it's been a challenge, it's been a grind, there's other things going on in people's lives. It's not what everyone thinks. It's not, it's not as simple as that. But the reality is it does get easier for the ability to be able to execute when you've got the reps behind you.
Right? I can do these podcasts a lot easier now from when I started because I've been doing it for so long. I've got a system, I've got repetition, I've got experience, I've got a routine, and I know what I want to talk about. Whereas for the business, I only know how to build my business to the point that I've built it. To get it to that next level, it's going to take more challenges to overcome. It's going to require taking on bigger risks. It's going to require hiring new staff, it's going to require getting through new challenges. That is the reason why I know I can achieve the results that I want. It's just a matter of time and effort, right? If I sit around and just expect things to happen, it won't happen. If you expect for people to just magically start buying my stock more than anyone else, I mean, why would they? I haven't done anything to attract those customers. We need to keep working on how do we attain more customers. I need to keep working on how do I bring more people to a value proposition that is so good that that would be silly not to say yes, right? So that's
the way I look at it. This is the thing that I've been thinking about. I've been challenging myself on where I want to get to and the next things that I want to be able to achieve. And I've asked myself, well, why don't we have those results? And it's like, because we need this, we need this. So now I go after those things that we need to be able to do that, right? And it's just like a big strategy game. It's just a game of life in terms of you're you're getting out, you're making moves, you're making decisions, you're trying to do things, but you're doing things that are getting you closer to where you want to be, right? And if you do those things, you will end up where you want to be, unless you're not willing to do it. A lot of the time people go on this journey and they realize it's too hard. And it's not about that it's too hard, it's more so that it's makes you too uncomfortable, it's not what you thought, and you would rather do something else. And that's when you can start to realize that that's it's not what you want to do, and that is okay. Find the thing that you want to go after, find the passion, the drive that you have for it. And once you've got that ambition locked in, that's when you tap into it. And you will be able to relentlessly continue to build that resilience and go after the next step, the next thing, the next challenge, the next problem, the next outcome to solve. Right? And you can understand clearly why you can achieve the results you want. I know, I know I'm going to get what I want. I don't care if it takes me 10 years, right? But that's what I want. If someone doesn't want that, they're going to think 10 years is a long time. Why would you bother? Because that's what I want. You want something else, someone else wants something else, someone else wants something else. You're going to take 10 years to get to that part in your life, your dream, your ambition. And that's great. That's what you should do, right? So I'm here to encourage, to motivate, and inspire, and hopefully give you a little bit of a nudge today that just take a step back, think about it, why you haven't got the result that you want, refresh, reset, and then go solve those problems.
That's it. And that's it. That that's that's the episode for today, folks. Appreciate you tuning in. Let me know what it is that the the things that why you feel like you can't get what you want. What are the problems? And a lot of the time I see a very common, common result of answers from this, but I would love to know. Let me know down in the comments and we can have the conversation. I appreciate you being here. We'll be back here again next week, doing it all again, and I'll see you when I'm looking at you. Ciao.
