Conversations on Lifestyle, Passions and Hustles. Sharing insights, understanding and lifestyle stories. With the intent to bring you: things which will enable you, things which will inspire you and things which will motivate you to pursue these yourself.
In Episode 278 of the Further Your Lifestyle podcast, host Chris shares a short pep talk centered on the idea that “it’s your choice,” emphasizing personal responsibility, accountability, and how you choose to interpret situations. He explains that progress depends on choosing to do what’s required—whether that means taking action, asking for help, or committing to both the practical and theory sides of learning (using training to be a chef as an example). Chris challenges the habit of blaming external pressures and warns against chasing shortcuts, arguing that doing the hard thing first can save time and repeated failure. He encourages listeners to reflect on how the message applies to their current circumstances and invites them to share the tough decisions they’re facing.

Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to the Further Your Lifestyle Podcast Conversations on Lifestyle Passions and Hustles. My name's Chris. I am your host, and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 278 today. Continuing on this kind of short little sessions, uh, just of things that have kind of popped up in my own headspace and um as I've been going through, you know, life and building my business and just things that have kind of like popped up and just challenged me and kept me on my toes. And I'm just playing them back over these next couple of weeks. And uh there's been a great conversation, and it's and I mean it's it's such a cliche, it's popped up so many times, and I think it's something which maybe we can kind of get a little bit um stuck on or it or play ignorance's bliss with, and that is it's your choice. Now, this can be used in so many different ways, and I want to break that down very quickly off the cuff, kind of just how I'm experiencing with that at the moment. Um, but yeah, if you enjoy these episodes, please like, subscribe, uh, leave a comment if you want to continue the conversation. Of course, if you think this is really good for someone else to listen to, please share it. That would mean the absolute world to me. We're gonna roll the intro and let's get into it.
So it's your choice. I mean, keeping it short for sweet, I mean, at the end of the day, everything that we do comes down to your choice. You get to just decide what you do today, what you're gonna do, where you're gonna go, how you're gonna do it, um, your responsibility, your accountability. Um, it's your choice. Um, you know, and you can choose to be good, you can choose to be bad, but that's not really the perspective I'm going about today. Um it it's it's really the perspective of actually you choose how to see things. You choose to, you know, be positive, you choose to be negative, and you choose to, you know, create the story that you're telling yourself about who you are and what you're trying to achieve. And I've I've had to keep myself um honest with this one recently because you know, if
if we're choosing to not do the things, last week we spoke about what is it going to take, right? And the choice part today is literally, well, are you going to do the things that it's going to require to get you to where you want to be? You know, whether it's training for something. And I use these as metaphors and examples because they're all relevant to my life. But, you know, if you're training to be a chef, right, you can't expect to go learn to be a chef and not do not only the practical side of things, but also, you know, the the studious side of things as well. You know, doing the notes, doing the research, doing the learning, doing the theory, the theory-based side as well. Um, it's your choice. If you don't do one of those, then you're not going to have the full, you know, I guess the complete picture to be able to be the chef you want to be. Now, if you just want to be a practical chef, then maybe you could just focus on doing practical and um maybe that will give you enough experience to be able to get away with it. It's your choice, right? And that's that's
the point. But I think the other way we need to look at this is just how as things come and go as they um are occurring in our life, it's easy to say, oh, there's so many things going wrong, or there's so many pressures, or costs of living crisis, or if only this, if only that. Well, sure, but it's your choice on how you want to control that and how you want to react to that. It's your choice. And my my encouragement, and also comes as a frustration, is when I see other people not doing the choice that I thought would make sense. Like it's it seems like a very logical choice, a common sense choice. But then I realize and look back at myself and I'm like, hey, this is a nice little
reflection of I'm avoiding doing the thing that I need to do to get me to where I want to be. And it's easy for me to tell other people to do it when I can see it clearly for them. Maybe they can see it clearly too when they're pro, you know, um procrastinating or they're avoiding it. Um, or maybe that they genuinely don't know, right? But it's your choice to ask for help. It's your choice to take action, it's your choice to go do the hard thing. And a lot of the time we choose to try and find the easy way through things, the the shortcut. But the reality is, is if you actually had done the hard way first, you're probably actually going to get there quicker because you haven't had to fail four times to get there. And a lot of the time we try this, we try this, we try this, then it works. So you're back to square one, square one, square one, and then the third time, back to square one for the fourth time, and then you just finally do it the hard way. It takes just as long, but if you had done it the hard way first, it meets all of those three other lines. And I think when I realize this, it's like it's it's okay. We we've got to we've got to back ourselves, we've got to trust ourselves, and it's your choice and go after it. Uh, because no one else, no one else is going to do that for you. It's easy to get other people to make the decision for you, so you don't have the responsibility and the accountability to it, but that ain't going to get you the results that you want. So this is my little
quick little pep talk, as much as it is to myself. Um, I wanted to share it for others as well because I think it's it's been something that I've been, you know, kind of chewing on and uh it keeps me honest. And I think I think we could all use a little bit. I mean, it's your choice how you take this, right? It's your choice if you think it's relevant or not. Uh, but I I I think I think it's a moment to just sorry, I think it's important that you just take a moment, soak that in, and actually ask yourself, how is this relevant to my life right now? Because a lot of the time we are the reason why things aren't happening. And it's because the choices we're making or failing to make, right? By choosing not to take action is an action, it's inaction. Whereas if you take action and you're working towards moving to that direction that you want to be, well, there you go. That's your choice. So again, the ball is in your court. It's up to you to decide how you want to do that, how you want to manage that, how you want to run with it. Uh, but for me, it's been a nice little eye-opener, nice little like um kick up the butt, I guess, just to keep motivated and keep me honest. And I wanted to share that back to you. So we're gonna be back here again next week. If that's something that you've enjoyed, um let me know in the comments below, drop down below, and let me know what are the choices that you're dealing with or what are some of the tough decisions you've had to make or that you're trying to make at the moment. More than happy to continue the conversation, bounce ideas, and you know, if I can encourage and inspire and motivate you. I mean, that's that's really my goal here is to do that. Uh so yeah, feel free to do so. But if you want to support the podcast, the best thing you can do is share it with someone else. That would mean the absolute world to me. Uh appreciate you being here. We'll be back here again next week doing it all again. Ciao.
