Conversations on Lifestyle, Passions and Hustles. Sharing insights, understanding and lifestyle stories. With the intent to bring you: things which will enable you, things which will inspire you and things which will motivate you to pursue these yourself.
In Episode 277 of the Further Your Lifestyle podcast, host Chris shares a short, personal reflection on the question “What does it take?” and how it applies to business, training, education, and career goals. He explains that progress requires honest self-awareness: what worked to get you here may not be enough to reach the next level, so you must identify what actions, learning, help, savings, or extra effort are required and write them down. Chris uses a hiring example—only 2 of 6 applicants completed a requested video—to show how initiative and doing what others won’t can set you apart. He challenges listeners who feel stuck to define what it will take and consistently take action to move closer to their goals.

Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to the Further Your Lifestyle podcast conversations on lifestyle passions and hustles. My name's Chris. I am your host, and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 277 today, and we're we'll be continuing kind of like these short bursts of episodes of just me talking about things that have kind of popped up in the last couple of weeks over my own lifestyle through my business and just as I'm just trying to progress forward in my own ambitions and goals. And I think they're all really relevant topics or just nice little reminders and pick-me-ups of what they have been for me. And I feel like it's something that I think maybe if you just hear it fresh off the cuff, kind of randomly not expecting it, it might do what it did for me and give you a nice little pick-me-up, a little boost, and actually help you further your lifestyle. Now, I will say if you do enjoy these episodes, or if you're here for the first time, jump down in the comments, say hi, don't be shy, but make sure you hit like, subscribe if you enjoy the content. But the best thing that you can do to help support the podcast is actually share it with someone. Let them know what you've heard and get them on there and have a listen themselves, and maybe they can be motivated and encouraged and inspired to go after whatever it is that they want to do. We're gonna roll the intro and then we're gonna dive straight into this episode.
And we're talking about what does it take? So it's it's a good question, right? What does it take? And this this can be put into the lens and context of so many different things. But for me, over the last, it's probably really the last two months, and this this happens every year. I mean, I've been very ambitious in what I've been trying to achieve personally for my business. And uh when I first started the business, you have your ideas, your goals, your aspirations, and then as it progresses, it changes and it evolves into something else. And what I thought I would be doing five years ago, it's it's changed, it's evolved, it's become a bigger, I guess, uh something bigger than I probably ever imagined. But at the same time, you you kind of have this mentality that's like you want it to be big or you want it to be at this certain size or you want it to be earning a certain amount of money, etc. And back then it's like, what's it gonna take? What does it take? And now I'm I zoom out and I look at probably where I am, I am now where I wanted to be five years ago. And but sometimes you think about, oh well, but I'm not at that next five year spot. Of course not, because I've got to go do the five years work. But the point is, is like I'm back at the point where I'm asking myself, what is it gonna take? What does it take to get there? And I mean, this applies in anything that we're trying to work towards and wanting to achieve ourselves by putting our work and effort towards, whether if you're just training for something or if you're learning, or even if you're going through university, or if you're going through maybe you're going through an internship and you want to get a job offer for a career, or you're just looking for a job for the first time. And I think it's a really important thing. It's like, what does it take, or what is it going to take?
Now, one thing that I always have to keep myself honest with is just because it's worked to this point, and I was having a good chat to one of my team members about this, is just because you've done something up until this point doesn't mean that it's always going to work the same. Now, reps and consistency is going to pay off. We've spoken about that before, but I think where you need to make sure you're always doing the due diligence, having that self-awareness and keeping yourself honest, is asking yourself is like, okay, if we keep doing this, is it going to get us to where we want to be? Or is it going to get me closer to where I want to be? And what is it going to take? And I've I've done this before where I've looked around and I can see that other people are ahead, or maybe someone's getting a better opportunity than me, or it looks like that they're they've got it all figured out. Now that isn't always the case, but from a perspective, that's how we kind of feel. And you have to ask yourself, well, what if the people ahead of you, what are they doing that's getting them the results that you want that you aren't doing? Now, sometimes it's as simple as just doing something that no one else is willing to do.
And I don't mean that in a bad way, but like I've been, we've been trying to hire for a we're hiring for a job at the moment for my business. We're looking for someone to come join and be a co-host and a host of a live stream for eBay Live. And we had we had like a role of six submissions come through, and they submit, they put their details in, say why they're perfect for the role. And then the next step was you have to do a video. You have to do a one-minute video or just just a video selling me an item, and that's how I can kind of start to filter out if these people are even serious. And only two of the six did it, and within within 24 hours of actually receiving that request, and that shows me, okay, they're willing to do it, they're willing to go above and beyond, and it shows a next level level of initiative and actual interest into that. Now, some of those things haven't actually worked out, they weren't the right candidates. But the point is, if there's a requirement or if there's something there that gives you the opportunity to set yourself apart, then that would be a great way to show what does it take. It takes you doing the absolute best you possibly can. Not doing anything is obviously not going to get the result that you want.
So my challenge for you this week is if you're struggling with things, if you're feeling like there's a few things not going in your way or you feel a bit stuck, most of the time I'll be asking yourself, what's one thing that you can do today to get you closer? But sometimes that can be a little bit overwhelming. So another question we can be asking is like, what is it going to take? Right? Do you need to work a little bit extra? Do you need to get some help? Do you need to learn a little bit more? Do you need to just save up a bit more? Do you what is it going to take? And actually put it down on paper or actually spell it out to yourself of what is it going to take, rather than just trying to, I guess, risk it till you make it or bluffing it till you make it. Now, you can fake it till you make it, or you can try. And a lot of the time, for me, I only know how to build my business up until this point. I don't know anything beyond this. So I am. I'm literally trying to figure out. But I'm also asking myself, what is it going to take? If we're doing, let's say we're doing $750,000 in a year. Okay, we know how to do this now, we can do that. What's it going to take to get me to that 1 million? What's it going to take to get us to that next step? Right. And start to identify. And then how do I put that into action? How do I put that in place? How do we build the processes for it? How? So you actually have to have an understanding of what is it going to take? And a lot of the time it is going to mean lots of highs, lots of lows, lots of struggles, lots of great things as well. But in the midst of it, if you're not moving towards doing the things that it's going to take to do, then you will not see the result. I mean, it's simple action, it's it's math, right? I mean, you can't get you can't get two by doing one plus zero. It's one plus one, right? So that that's my little motivation for you all today.
Nice, short, and sweet, keeping it fresh. And I I think it's a really important question. And the simple thing, and sometimes these things can sound cliche, but the reality is, is like they're cliche because they they're there for a reason. People are saying it because it works. And I think it's a nice little way to kind of slap you across the face and just make sure you're getting that splash of water in your face and say, hey, we can do this. All we got to do is actually just pull back and ask us, what does it take? Or what is it going to
take? Appreciate you being here. Let me know down in the comments below what is it going to take for you to get to your goal? What do you think it's going to be? And if you want to continue the chat, like and bounce some ideas and have some great conversation around this, drop a comment. Reach out, more than happy to do so. Otherwise, please like, subscribe, and if you can share this with someone else that needs to hear this, and we'll be back here again next week doing it all again. Ciao.
