In Episode 271 of the Further Your Lifestyle podcast, host Chris explores the difference between wanting a goal and being willing to do what it takes to achieve it. He argues that most people love outcomes but resist the repetitive, uncomfortable process required, and that the real barrier is often willingness to learn rather than capability. Chris shares examples from starting his podcast and reselling business, then outlines practical ways to become more willing: stop trying to know everything before starting, fall in love with reps through routine and consistency, shrink the challenge into one small action at a time, and remember nobody begins as an expert. He closes with reflective questions about commitment, confidence, and the uncomfortable steps being avoided.

Welcome And The Willingness Question
SPEAKER_00Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to the Fither Your Lifestyle Podcast Conversations on Lifestyle, Passions, and Hustles. My name's Chris. I am your host, and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 271 today, and we're talking about a big hot topic, which I think is a super relevant topic for so many people out there, especially maybe they're starting their career path or what they want to do in the world and in their life. And sometimes that's going to change quite a lot. But I think it also resonates with people that are further along in their lives and they've got lots of experience behind their belts and they're wanting something different or they're wanting to go after something. The whole topic today is are you willing? Now, most people know what we want. We have this idea of what we want. It's a dream, it's a goal, it's an ambition, it's something that we expect that's just going to happen eventually. And that's the whole premise of this podcast back in the day is furthering your lifestyle, helping us get to where we want to be. And the the problem isn't that we don't know what we don't want. It's we we know where we want to go, we we know what we want to become and we know what we'd like to have and all these different things. But the real question isn't what do you want? The real question is are you willing to get what you want? And I think this means are you willing to get uncomfortable? Are you willing to be a beginner again? Are you willing to not know anything? Are you willing to be inconsistent before you become consistent? And are you willing to keep going when the excitement wears off? That's the whole idea of today's episode. I mean, we love the outcomes of things. We love the fit body, we love the successful business, we love the freedom it creates, the the wealth it generates, the confidence we may have, the relationship we end up in, and the lifestyle we can create. But we often underestimate the price of actually making that happen and the work, the time it's going to take. Because a dream is exciting, but the process is repetitive, it can be boring, it can be ruthless, and it can be a hard pill to swallow, I guess. And somewhere in between those two things, excuses begin to appear as well. So we're talking about this today. If you have an idea, a dream, a goal, an ambition, or something that you want to do, but you just keep feel like you keep getting stuck, or there's plenty of distractions or more excuses, this is the episode for you. And I want to take you through it because I've been through it myself. And if you enjoy these episodes, make sure you do hit like, subscribe, comment if you want to continue the conversation as well. Otherwise, you can share these episodes with someone else if you think they need to hear it and can resonate from this episode as well. Let's roll the intro and let's get into it.
Wanting The Destination Avoiding The Work
SPEAKER_00So most of the time, and this is a bit generalized, so please don't take it personally, but people want a destination but resist the journey. The moment we decide we want something, reality kicks in. Oh, I don't know where to start, or I'm too busy, or what if what if I fail, or I'm not ready to do this, or I need to learn more first, right? All of a sudden, the dream feels impossible. All of a sudden, everything seems way too hard. But maybe the issue isn't necessarily capability because a lot of the time we are capable of doing things, we just don't know how to do the things. It's the willingness to learn. That's what we're lacking. Everyone wants a view from the mountain, but few people actually want to climb it. And I think that's a really good analogy because when I first started doing this podcast, when I first started my reselling business, I had ideas of things, but until I got into the nitty-gritty of routine, scheduling, actually being consistent, actually showing up, actually putting work in, and actually spending the time that I had to actually get results and tangible results. And a lot of the time it's just doing experience, doing reps to only learn to make mistakes to figure out how to do it better. Until I did that, we did not see growth in my business. It just did not happen.
The Gap Between Wanting And Doing
SPEAKER_00Part two of all of this, or point two, is the gap between wanting and willing. Right? Are you willing to wake up earlier to get something done? Are you willing to learn something new? Are you willing to ask stupid questions? Are you willing to fail publicly? Are you willing to look in experience? Are you willing to practice when nobody's watching? Are you willing to sacrifice comfort? Because every goal quietly will ask this from you. What are you willing to exchange for me? And that's the cost of getting the greatness that you want, the dream that you want, the goal that you want, the idea that you have. That's the cost of actually having to do all these different things. Now, they won't always exist, but you're gonna have to tick them off as you go through, because that's just the reality. Because a lot of the time to get to where we want to be, we've never done it before. Therefore, we have to become something that we've never done before, which means we're gonna have to get uncomfortable.
Four Ways To Build Willingness
SPEAKER_00So, how do we become more willing? Number one is we need to stop trying to know everything before we start. You're never gonna know everything before we start. You can probably learn about, think about, okay, this if I was gonna do this, this is how I'm gonna do it. So you go do it, right? You don't learn confidence first, you learn by doing, and then action creates understanding, which gives you confidence. Okay. And then two is you want to fall in love with reps. Motivation will always fail, guaranteed. You're gonna go like this, and then it's just gonna dip. So you need to find, or you need to have a willingness that gets you to grow through routine, consistency, and repetition. If you can build a structure, build a consistency structure or routine that enables you to just get out, pump out the reps, do the work, then you will find the success that you want. I always laugh when people joke at me about I'm so boring, I just do the same thing every week. That's because it gets us the results. The people who and we we did an episode about this just literally the other day. The people who succeed the most aren't always the most talented, but they're the ones that are often willing to keep showing up day in and day out. The third way we can become more willing is we need to shrink the challenge. Don't ask yourself, how do I become successful? Ask, what's the smallest thing that I'm willing to do today? What is one thing that's going to get you closer to where you want to be? One email, one walk, one page, one conversation. This is the kind of stuff that you can do. I mean, you can ask for help and get inspiration and get help from people to point you in the right direction, but you still have to go do the one email, the one walk, the one page, the one conversation. You still have to do it. And you also need to remember, which is point number four of how to become more willing, is nobody starts as an expert. No one has this figured out. No one, sorry, no one has this figured out at the start, right? We do have it figured out once you've done the reps. So every person that you look up to and see, oh, wow, they've got an amazing business or they've got an amazing outcome, et cetera, et cetera, they started confused. They lacked confidence, they made mistakes, they doubted themselves. The difference wasn't knowledge, it was the willingness to actually get out there and do it. So, and this is a pretty short episode
The Hard Truth About Commitment
SPEAKER_00to be honest. The hard truth is this, right? Sometimes we say we want something, but we don't actually know what what life comes with it, what is the cost that comes with it. And that's okay because clarity isn't just about discovering what you want, it's about discovering what you're willing to commit to. And that's why a lot of people will stay in a job with comfort, money, and just continue to work for someone else. There is nothing wrong with that if that's what you want. If you don't want it, don't complain that you wish you had something else if you're not willing to fix it, if you're not willing to change it. That's that's the hard truth, right? If you're not willing to do the hard thing, then you don't get to complain. That's the reality of it. And I know sometimes we don't have the choice or the luxury of a choice that gives us the freedom to be able to go do something that we want to do. But I would challenge, is that an excuse? How do how do we make this happen? Do you have to hustle harder while you're still working to build a bridge to be able to escape that nine to five to get to what you want to do? And this doesn't even have to be about building a business or escaping the nine to five. It can be just literally about training for your first marathon. It could be learning how to play the guitar. It could be because you want to learn how to code and build an app. It could be anything, right? I'm speaking generalized, I'm speaking generic, just trying to throw ideas out there.
Questions To Challenge Your Excuses
SPEAKER_00So a couple of questions I would ask you to ask yourself. Number one is what do I say I want? What do you say you want? What am I actually willing to do to achieve that want? And then where am I waiting for confidence instead of building it? So where are you delaying? And what uncomfortable step have you been avoiding? I was chatting to someone about this just the other day. They have an idea, a dream of a business they want to start, and they came up with all these excuses, and I was able to push them down very quickly. Now that's easy for me because I've been in that position. But to them, once they realize it's like, oh yeah, okay, they didn't really have a reason not to start, but they were making excuses because they didn't know how to do it. I gave them the I threw them a bone and said, well, go do this, go do this, go do this. You don't have any excuse now. Right? So then it comes down to like, are they willing to go figure out how to do? Get uncomfortable, learn how to build a Shopify store, learn how to set up a point of sales system, learn how to market, learn how to reach out to people and ask if they were if I can buy something off them. That's when you have to get uncomfortable. So again, maybe the question isn't whether you're capable, maybe the question isn't whether you're talented, maybe the question isn't even whether you deserve it. Maybe the question is a lot, lot simpler, which is, are you willing?
Next Step And How To Reach Us
SPEAKER_00Now you don't need all the answers, you just need to take the next step. That's what the whole purpose of this podcast is, is to help you further your lifestyle. If you don't know how to do it, if you have a question, if you've got feel like things are holding you back or things are in the way, drop a comment. I'm more than happy to help challenge ideas and where people may be stuck. Because a lot of the time we we get in, we are our own worst enemies. We get in the way of actually making progress. Sometimes you need to get slapped around a little bit and just get told where to focus your attention so you can move forward. I'm more than happy to do that. I don't have it all figured out, but I am confident enough to know that okay, if you do something and put your effort to it and be willing, then you will get a result one way or another. And that result leads you further to where you want to be. So I think, again, I want to leave you with this question or this statement. Every goal quietly asks one thing of you. What are you willing to exchange for that goal? And that's what you have to go think about. If you leave with anything from this episode, that's the thing you need to go think about. Appreciate you being here. We'll be back here again next week.
