In Episode 264 of the Further Your Lifestyle podcast, host Chris focuses on the “boring middle” of any journey—the repetitive, mundane reps where progress feels slow and results seem invisible. He argues most people don’t fail from lack of talent but from quitting when motivation fades, doubt creeps in, and the work feels too ordinary. Chris explains that consistent reps build trust, standards, resilience, and identity, compounding like snowflakes into noticeable change over time. Using examples like running and long-term podcasting, he emphasizes that winners rely on routines and evidence-based processes rather than hype, and that foundations grow unseen like roots before visible success appears. He closes by challenging listeners to identify what they’re tempted to quit, choose stacking reps over chasing results, and keep showing up until today’s boredom becomes tomorrow’s “overnight success.”

Welcome And The Boring Stuff

SPEAKER_00

Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to the Feather Your Lifestyle Podcast Conversations on Lifestyle Passions and Hustles. My name's Chris. I am your host, and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 264 today, and I want to talk about I want to talk about the boring stuff. The stuff that is boring, but it is actually so crucial in helping you actually achieve what you want to achieve. And I think there's this whole it is a bit of a generalization or cliche that everybody loves the beginning when we start off on a new journey, or you're you're going to be kicking off a new routine, or you're going to be trying a new job, or you've got a new opportunity. It's oh, this is going to be great, it's going to be awesome. It's all these new things are going to be happening. It's the excitement, like the fresh start, the big goals, the vision, the possibilities, the idea that you'll be able to cross the finish line and thinking about the results, the celebration, and the payoffs and all this stuff. But the problem is a lot of the time people don't fall in love with the middle stuff, the boring stuff. The boring middle, like the reps, the rinse and repeat, the days which look the same, and the work that feels invisible. And yet, that is actually where all the winning stuff comes from. Like the ability to win, that's where it happens. Most people, I guess, again, generalizing, but most people fail not because they lack the talent, not because they lack the ability to actually have the skill set to do it, but it's more so because they quit because it gets tough. Or it's hard, or it's boring. And the motivation fades, the excitement starts to disappear. You've got people getting frustrated with the progress that's slow. And I I feel that. It's very annoying. And maybe you can't see the results, or you're not seeing the big payoff, and the doubt starts to creep in. That's exactly this is where exactly, and that's why exactly it matters. Because if you can overcome this stuff, if you can push through this stuff, if you can make this stuff become not too boring, then you will actually win. You will thrive. And that's what I want to talk about today. So if you do enjoy these episodes, please make sure you like, subscribe, comment. If you want to continue the conversation, you can continue the conversation down in the comment section. But if you enjoy these episodes, please share them. Share them to someone else that maybe needs to hear this. Otherwise, we're going to roll the intro and let's get into it.

Why The Middle Tests Everyone

SPEAKER_00

So usually the start is it's it's kind of sexy, it's it's exciting, it's where all the fun happens. But the middle is where the truth happens. I always find when I do a long run or any run, the start, yeah, okay, maybe you're not super motivated, but you're like, all right, let's do this. You get to the middle, and then that's when you gotta start to really understand, okay, how am I gonna get through this? How am I gonna overcome it? And then you get your second win usually in that final pipe, just before the finish line, when you can see the end and you you you be beeline for it. But the thing is, anyone can start. Anyone can go out there and say, I'm gonna do this. You can go out and get new shoes, you can go get a new business, or start a new business, you can start a new routine, new year, new me, or you can start a new journal, you can have a new plan, or all these different things. But the reality starts to sink in after week three, after month two, after month six, and year two. When things start to really get gnarly, things start to really test you, and who's still there? The amount of times I've seen people telling me that they're going to start doing this or they want to do that or they're they're planning to do these things, and they do. They start it, they do it for three weeks, or they do it for a couple of months, or they do it for six months, or they do it for two years, and then disappear. And it's the start that seems to get this attention, but the middle is what actually starts to carve you into the greatness that you've become. Because reps will build more than just results. Every reps that you do gives you, sorry, I guess we can look at reps whether it's a workout, whether it's a hard conversation, whether it's a journal entry, whether it's getting

Reps Build Identity And Standards

SPEAKER_00

out a piece of content or another early morning or being uncomfortable or dealing with an uncomfortable choice. These, they're not just building results, it's building trust, it's building standards, it's building consistency, it's building resilience, and it's building identity of what you stand for. Every rep is a vote of who you're becoming. It starts to chip away at it. And that's why if you want to be this whoever it is that you want to be, you have to be willing to do these things. And this is the boring stuff. It is just a mundane rinse and repeat, but that's where people get wrong, is because it actually compounds, right? At first you do your first rep. Sure, okay. Nothing, nothing really changes. Do 10 reps, okay, small, small, you're starting to get a groove. You do 50 reps, things start to get real. 100 reps. Now people start to notice, right? 250 reps. I mean, we're on 269 episodes of this, right? And to me, it it feels easy. It is easy. And to others, maybe they think, oh, he's just chucking out another one. But the point is, sometimes it works both ways, right? This can become boring for me. I can just do it for the sake of doing it. It might come boring for other people because they're not willing to listen or pay attention. And I get that. But the reality is, it's like showing up isn't about being the best. Showing up is actually just showing up and being willing to give your best. And it stacks the reps, it compounds the effort, right? And then your consistency starts to then, I guess, multiply these things. Because I I guess a good way you could look at this is think of like snowflakes, right? They look insignificant. But once you put them all together, like they they create all this snow, and then you can see it thickness, it covers so much area. But by itself, it's nothing, right? So that's the power of doing these reps and being consistent and putting in the amount of iterations that you need to do in order to get the results that you want. And I think most people end up just giving up or quitting simply because they don't see the results. It's not working, or maybe this isn't for me. And look, I'm I'm the first to say that I've felt moments where it's I just can't catch a break. You get the doubt that seeps in. But then you work through, you understand why you're doing it, and you have to re-remind yourself why you confidently know this is going to work, the skills that you have in place, the self-awareness of the things that you are doing versus you're not doing. You have systems in place, you have standards in place, and

Compounding Effort Like Snowflakes

SPEAKER_00

all of this you continue to grow on and iterate on. And you have to have all that stuff before even the results start to show, right? Before the world sees anything, if you will. But stuff everyone else, this is about you and you getting your results. Roots grow like underground. You can't see the roots. But by having those roots really strong and structured, that's when the trees are able to thrive and grow and become massive. And that's the way I like to look at things, is because building foundations, building structure, building a solid structure, it takes time. And it is easy to say, oh, that's the reason why we're not where we want to be. But the reality is it's it's twofold because there is a this level of building a root system, building a structure, a foundation, but you still need to have the action that comes on top of it, right? If you're having all these saying you're building all these roots and stuff, but nothing's growing this way, well, then we probably have a problem. If everything's just under here and nothing's changing, well, where where's the actual growth up here? And that's something we have to keep ourselves honest with and not use it as an excuse. And I think where people start to succeed are the ones that learn to excuse me, are the ones that learn to rinse and repeat. And this hopefully this is you listening, right? But your constant I guess, I guess what I'm trying to say is winners don't need constant motivation, they don't need novelty or hype. But but what they do need, or what

Trust The Process Without Excuses

SPEAKER_00

they you will find you'll have, is you've you've got the reps, you've got the routine, you've got the process, and you've got the ordinary. And you have to get chummy and happy with doing those things. It's it's not about having this hype and motivation to do it, but if you can find your motivation in doing it, because you know that, okay, by doing this, I get this result. Even though it might not sound exciting, but you can realize that if I do this, I get that, therefore we do as much as possible of this to get as much as possible of that. You break it down from a different perspective, and all of a sudden you can start to see, well, it it's kind of like the way that people would talk about if if you if you could spend a dollar and every dollar you spent, you had two dollars in your bank, how much money would you spend? People will say, Well, I'll spend unlimited money because you'd have double the amount of money back. And that's the way you have to look at it, is why when you do a rec, you're going to get an outcome later that benefits you. But the it the thing is, you don't get it now. If you could spend $100,000 today, but you're guaranteed to get $200,000 next year, would you do it? Guaranteed, of course. Now, that's where that's where the difference is, is because we're doing it ourselves, we're having to put all the pressure on ourselves, we're believing in ourselves. There's pressure that actually don't get that result. There's no guarantee, if you will. But I think it's fair to say, if you are doing these things, it might be repet repetitive uh repetitive today, but it becomes remarkable later, right? But you have to do the action. And I think this is this is where people get stuck because it is easy to say just trust the process, but you have to make sure the process is doing the things that is going to get you the outcome that you want, right? We we can't chase this excitement of, oh, I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna show up and I'll just get the results. I mean, sure, you do need to show up, but you do need to chase the evidence that actually gets you the results as well. Excitement will always come and go. There'll be highs and lows, etc., etc. But if you're not committed and if you're not actually doing the tangible, evidential work that gets a result, then none of it will be worth

Questions To Break Through The Middle

SPEAKER_00

it, right? And there's a couple of questions I wanna we're gonna wrap this up pretty quick. There's a couple of questions I want to challenge you on before I finish, which is number one is where are you in your life that is boring in the middle right now? That feels like it's the middle, feels like it's boring. Next question is, what are you tempted to quit because it always feels so mundane or repetitive? What if the very thing that feels boring is actually building you the breakthrough you need? These are all questions ask yourself, think about them and look at it from different angles. And the last question is, are you chasing results or are you starting reps? Now, my my encouragement from this whole episode is if you are in the middle section and you feel like nothing's really getting you the results and you're just showing up and it's just the same old, same old good. That's really good. That means you're in the arena. That means you're in the space to be able to do reps, right? That's what we want. We want just to be able to get out there, just keep putting in the reps, especially if we know the reps work. If the reps equal result, why would you change it, right? And the problem is it takes a while for people to get to this point. And this is exactly where winners are made because they're willing to continue to do those things constantly to get those consistent results. So my challenge

Overnight Success Is Built Slowly

SPEAKER_00

to you is, and and and encouragement is keep showing up, keep stacking that, keep compounding that. And as you keep doing that, what feels boring today is going to turn into something what many people would then call overnight success. Right? I've been doing podcasting, YouTube business for many, many, many years. And sometimes I look back and think, geez, why haven't I achieved this? Why haven't I got that? Why haven't we done this? But eventually there's going to come a point in time, and there's already people that do, there's people that message you say, oh, this is amazing. I would love to be able to do this. And you think, well, I've still got so much more I need to fix and choose. But to someone else on their timeline, all of a sudden you're like, oh my gosh, you've got it all figured out. You've you're the success. It's like when we see people, all of a sudden they've been grinding for 10 years, and then they have a breakout role in acting, and then they become, they just blow up everywhere and they're in everywhere, and everyone calls that an overnight success. When really they've been chipping away for it for so long, it's just now everyone just see them sees them everywhere because they have. Everyone has started to realize this person is actually good and we need them, so we want them everywhere. And that's that's what happens. But really, they've been working super hard, training, building their acting skills, doing marketing, taking on new opportunities, getting out of their comfort zone for years now, right? And that's the same for you. And that's the same for me. That's the bet I play because I know by putting in the reps, putting in the consistency, you get better at doing something, you get more results, you get more information, you become more educated, you get more experience, and then you're able to make better decisions. And then where's more opportunities come along, you say yes, and you're able to then all of a sudden do things that would have taken you so long or so hard to do in the first place, become a lot easier, and you can do quickly and swiftly, and it results in an overnight success. Yet it's been 10 years in the making. Anyway, I blah blah. My point is, you're not alone. Keep doing what you're doing. But if you do

Final Challenge And Invitation To Comment

SPEAKER_00

want to have a conversation about this, because I get it, sometimes it's draining, it's exhausting and tiring, and you feel alone, and you just don't know if it's worth it anymore. Let's have that chat. Jump down in the comments below, let's continue the conversation. Otherwise, we'll be back here again next week, doing it all again. You have a wonderful day. Cheers.
