In Episode 262 of the Further Your Lifestyle podcast, host Chris challenges the idea of waiting for a mentor, investor, perfect timing, or permission, arguing that “nobody is coming” can be empowering because it puts you in control. He explains how waiting often disguises itself as preparation—more research, more experience, “next month”—and how it protects you from failure and discomfort while costing time, momentum, self-trust, and opportunity. Chris urges listeners to stop outsourcing their future to others’ approval, take responsibility, and act imperfectly but honestly by making the call, starting the draft, having the conversation, and taking the risk. He closes with reflection questions about where you’re quietly waiting and shares his own example of pushing past hesitation to run a 5K after injury.

Welcome And The Hard Truth
SPEAKER_00Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to the Feather Your Lifestyle podcast conversations on lifestyle passions and hustles. My name's Chris. I am your host, and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 262 today, and this one, this one might hit hard. It's we're talking about what if nobody is coming. And I've got a question for you. What if nobody is coming, right? No mentor, no investor, no magical opportunity, no perfect timing, no person who suddenly sees your potential and hands you the keys or a silver platter. No one's coming, right? That that is the fact. No one is coming to make all your problems go away or make everything easier for you. And weirdly enough, I think this actually might be the best thing for us ever. And the whole purpose or the core idea of this episode is a lot of people aren't stuck, stuck because we lack the ability. It's actually because we we're stuck because we're waiting around for something to happen. And we've spoken about this over the last couple of weeks. We're lacking, or we're waiting for more so, confidence, support, approval, certainty, someone to come rescue us. And while we wait, life keeps moving and everyone else moves ahead. And then you're starting to wonder why why are other people ahead of me? Why are people getting the results? Why are people getting all these opportunities? Because they're out there taking action. They're out there doing things that are helping them get closer to where they want to be. So we're gonna roll the intro. We're gonna get into it today. I just adjusted my microphone here, forgot to bring it down. But we're gonna we're gonna roll the intro. And then if these episodes do motivate you, inspire you, get you excited, then make sure you do like and subscribe. You can leave a comment down below as well. But please share these with someone else. And if you do share these, let me know in the comments. I would love to know because I don't get to see who you share it to. So if you do share it, do let me know as well. Let's roll the intro and let's get into it.
The Hidden Waiting Game
SPEAKER_00So, first point I want to talk about is this hidden waiting game. I mean, we're never going to come out and admit it's like, oh, I'm just I'm just waiting for the right time. Well, some of us do, but I think what we end up usually doing is using these excuses to delay the action taking. And that is, I'm just waiting to do some more research, or I'm just doing some more research. I'm not ready yet. Once things calm down a little bit, maybe next month, I should I just need a little bit more experience. Sound familiar? I mean, I've used these before. Waiting often disguises itself as us preparing ourselves, and it gets very sticky, it can get very dangerous as well. You can get stuck in this one position or this one world understanding without actually taking action. And that's why it's really important for us to change our mindset, reframe this and look at it. Well, no one is coming. And that's okay, right? At first it can feel, at first it can feel a little bit harsh or a little bit scary, but then this is how the shift can start to happen. When we when we realize that no one else is coming, it can can become empowering because now all of a sudden you are in control of your future. You have the ability to go make things happen. And I read a statement the other day, I don't know who did it, they shared it on the Instagram, and it basically said, What would you ask for if you knew the answer wouldn't be no? Right. And I think when we go ask things, that's the mentality we need to have. Or when we go do things, what if it isn't no? What if it does work out well? What if we do get the yes? Right? So you need to stop outsourcing your future to other people's approval or something else to tell you that this is the time to do it. No one owes you any belief, opportunity, motivation, or discipline. Sure, you're gonna have people that love you and care for you and foster you, but they may not give you the best advice because for them, if they've gone through a process where some of this stuff makes them uncomfortable, and we're gonna talk about this next week, actually, they're gonna give you advice, which is only best for what they would have done, not what they think you should do. And this is why it's so important that you take responsibility for your life. The day you stop waiting is the day your life actually starts. So this is
When Safety Becomes Expensive
SPEAKER_00the thing. You look at other people and you think, oh, I wish I was where they were at, or where they're at now, or how did they get here? And this is the thing: the people you admire have figured this out already. Think about the athletes, think about the creators, the leaders, the entrepreneurs, the artists, the people in their top game, right? At some point, they've realized that nobody was coming for them. No one was coming to give them this silver spoon. So they trained away, they took action, they took things into their own hands, they created things anyway, they showed up anyway, they failed anyway. The people you admire weren't rescued, they they just decided that now is the time, right? So there's no point waiting around for things because all that does is makes you feel safe and secure until you realize the cost. Feeling safe and secure, sure, it's it's going to keep you protected, but it also limits you from the ability of actually getting more out of your ability to grow and take more on, capacity, opportunity, leverage. Waiting protects you from failure, it protects you from embarrassment, and it also protects you from discomfort. But it also costs you time, momentum, self-trust, self-awareness, experience, possibility, opportunity. And that stings. That hurts. It hurts me. I hope it hurts you. So, yeah, sure. Waiting does feel safe until it feels expensive, right? And I think that's why it's important that we do this next thing.
Take Accountability And Move
SPEAKER_00What do we do, right? What is it that we do? If nobody's coming good, it means now we take action. But this is where you become the person that you've been wanting and waiting to be. Meaning you make the call, you try and get that lead, you take the walk, you you go for the run, you start the draft, you start the conversation, you have a conversation, you take the risk, you back yourself. Not perfectly, just honestly. Just do. Right? And when you do that, honest things start to happen. Yeah, you're gonna learn quick. You might fail too, but you're going to get the experience that is gonna enable you to get back up, get back out there, and try it again. So I guarantee you, it's easy to wait for someone else to tell you what to do and follow their suggestions so you can blame them. But no, you need to can't you need to take accountability, you need to take responsibility, and you need to go out there and further your own life, right? No one else is gonna do it for you. I can give you some direction, I can give you some support. I'm still figuring out my stuff as well, right? You gotta figure out yours. So there's a couple of little things here that I'll I'll get you to reflect on.
Four Questions To Reflect On
SPEAKER_00And you can ask yourself these questions. Where in my life am I quietly waiting? What am I hoping someone else will fix? What if no one ever gives me permission? And what if I become the person I've been waiting for? Reflect on these. Have a conversation with yourself. Maybe do it with a friend, a partner, team effort. But you just, I mean, before we wrap it up, you you gotta remember this, right? Sure, nobody's coming, they're not coming to save you. And maybe that is exactly what you needed to hear today. Maybe that's the the truth, what you needed to hear, because that is the truth. The truth is this you were never waiting for someone else, you were waiting for you, right? And maybe today is the day that you can actually start. Well, actually, today's the day you can stop waiting, and today you can actually start, right? And and it it I know it seems cliche, and I know it seems, oh, this is so simple. That it is. It is really simple,
The 5K Run Mindset Shift
SPEAKER_00right? Literally taking that one step. I got out and did uh did a 5k run this morning. I've been getting back into running for the last, geez, it's been a grind, six months, and I've been fearful. I've been waiting for, oh, I'm not ready for it. I've been waiting for the oh, I need to do a little bit more, I need to do some more slow runs, or I need to do some more short runs. And even we've signed up for the trail running series this year, me and Carla, and by the time this comes out, I would have actually done one. But I'm just thinking, oh no, am I ready for this? Is it gonna work out? And the the way I look at it now is like, well, actually, worst case we walk it, right? That is literally the worst case, we walk it. And I went out and did a 5k, I haven't done a 5k for probably a year, might even be more than that, actually. And it felt good, it felt great. And I was thinking, oh, maybe I shouldn't do it, maybe I should just do 4K, but no, stop it, let's do 5K. And I did it. Now I know I'm capable of doing this because I've done it before, but coming back from an injury, there's all those things in my head just going about it all. And you just got to cut through the crap and just get out there and give it a go. That's that's why I'm leaving you. Appreciate
Closing Thoughts And Next Steps
