Speaker 1:

Yo yo yo. Welcome back to the Further your Lifestyle podcast conversations on lifestyle passions and hustles. My name's Chris, I'm your host and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 187 today, and the topic we're actually getting into is learning is forever, and it comes from a question that I've been asked and I've been enjoying these episodes, as I keep saying, over the last couple of actually probably not even couple, it's probably a good 12 weeks now, I reckon where I've been receiving these anonymous questions come through and really just diving into them and trying to be as open and off the cuff with them as possible, just really because I feel like I get to dig into it and really understand it, without any preconceived ideas or misconceptions from other things that I've potentially read. So the question that we're answering today is what's a lesson? You're still in the process of learning and how are you navigating that journey? And life's a journey, right, life's a big lesson, but we're going to tap into that. I think there's a few interesting things here which are going to resonate with a lot of you, with the topic of learning and furthering your lifestyle. This is great because in order to further our lifestyles, we do need to be continuously learning, we need to be continuously improving, we need to be figuring it out, and that's what we're going to be getting into today. So let's roll the intro and let's get into it. So a lesson you're still in the process of learning, and how are you navigating that journey?

Speaker 1:

Now, when I think about this, there's a whole bunch of different things. There's obviously life in itself and my business, which is a big component of my life, but I think then there's some personal things around, like self-awareness and understanding who I am and learning about myself. And the reality is, when we try to learn, you can receive information or you can take action and you get feedback real time, and then it's a matter of what you do with that. Do you apply it? Do you leverage it? Do you ignore it? Do you take it in? Do you go use it for something that's on us? Right? If you go to a lecture and you just listen and listen and do nothing, but from it, you literally just wasted an hour. Right? Because unless you take something from it, take a lesson and go apply it, then you're not actually executing right, you're not actually learning anything right, and the process of learning requires you to take the information, do some of the work, rinse and repeat, get some of the feedback and do it again. And I think you know the cliche of all this is life's a journey, lifelong journey, right.

Speaker 1:

As individuals as you, me, whoever you are, but also as professionals, we need to continuously figure out ways to develop who we are, what we want, what are our values, what do we want in life, but also with work and professional development as well? But also learning can be identified as it's an ongoing process. You're not going to know everything tomorrow. So I think for me, I've always been trying to go about and I'll get to the key lessons that I'm trying to process at the moment but we need to have this growth mindset right. When we take on and embrace this idea of growth mindset, it changes problems into opportunities and it means that they're opportunities for growth right. And it also means that it's an opportunity for self-improvement.

Speaker 1:

When we apply ourselves and I've done a few videos talking about the biggest problem is ourself when we don't figure out how to solve problems that are in our way to make us grow. Sometimes we just ignore them, sometimes we give up, sometimes it's too hard, but when we actually apply ourselves, figure out how to get past the problem, we actually learn and we actually grow and become a better version of ourselves. Obviously, there's other components of when we start to think about individuals ourselves, we can think about how vulnerable we are. Being open and I think being authentic and being open to talk about things helps bring a new level of how we learn and applying lessons, because sometimes, by ignoring things and not talking about them, we're never really dealing with them and we're never really working through them. Therefore, we can never really learn from them. But at the same time, there needs to be some level of if we're speaking about ourselves individually, like some level of what's the word? Like self-compassion, treating ourselves with kindness and patience as we navigate through those challenges. But that's a whole different conversation, right? So when it comes to me as what's a lesson, you're still in the process of learning. I think it's just figuring out how to get what I want as quickly as possible and not get so stuck on it, rushing but at the same time, understanding that it is going to take a lot of time and being okay with the present. Now, that's a lot right If I reflect on where I was four years ago, this business.

Speaker 1:

I didn't know where this business was going. I wasn't even doing what I'm doing in my business now, four years ago, but then prior to that, four years before that, so eight years ago, I was working the nine to five. I knew I wanted to start a business. I knew I wanted to get out of the working for someone else, but I didn't know what that looked like. So, clearly, the journey of me learning and the process of what that looks like has changed. It is, it has evolved, and I've become a better version of myself to be able to tap into, taking action and executing on furthering my lifestyle. And that growth is a continuous process. Right, but there's components of it because at the moment, like I am higher, like I'm doing better numbers than I've ever done in the entirety of my business. However, I'm still not satisfied because I know it can do better and I think there's this.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge between maybe persistence versus I don't know if it's frustration. Yes, I need to keep learning, I need to keep evolving, I need to keep growing, but at the same time, I'm doing that and I don't feel like I'm necessarily meeting my desired outcome. But my desired outcome is this idea of what I think it looks like and that's where I think we need to be mindful of, when we do go on these journeys for our dreams, goals, aspirations and furthering your lifestyle that what we think we're going towards might actually change. But we don't know that because we don't know what we don't know. Like I said, I've only been selling clothing for about a year and a half two years now and I didn't think I was going to be doing that. So that has now changed the path in the direction that I will go and what the lifestyle or what I'll start to tap into will look like. It starts to change. But ultimately, there's some key components which you know I want and I want to be negotiable in what my lifestyle will look like.

Speaker 1:

But again, that's a different conversation, that lesson of trying to overcome the struggle of now versus what I want and then getting in between. The key component here is the time's going to pass anyways. If you can be consistent, if you can be persistent and if you can be punctual and actually show up and do the work put in the reps, then you should see the results regardless. And look, maybe you're listening to this and maybe you don't agree with what I'm saying. At the end of the day, these are my lessons, so it's probably not really relevant. But for you, where's your focus? What's the lessons you're currently trying to learn through? What are you on the process of learning through and what are you navigating through? What are the challenges that you're feeling? And, I think, the key one that I've just said, I think majority of us, whether you're a Gen Z, whether you're a Gen Z, whether you're a millennial, or whether you're maybe a Gen X or boomer I think we're all impatient with progress.

Speaker 1:

We all want things now, and that's probably because of our own humanity's problem in the evolving of attention creation and, sorry, attention grabbing. Creation and also the technology that we have is because everything can happen like this. Therefore, we get impatient because we're so used to getting things instantly, this instant gratification, so it can be frustrating when we're not seeing the results and seeing the progress that we think we want. The other pain point is probably for me, is fear of failure. I'm doing all this, it's working in the moment, but then you're worried. Is this going to keep working and is this going to get me to where I want to be? Probably not, because in order to get to where I want to be, I need to be doing what it's going to take to get me to where I want to be. But I don't know how to get to that point because I'm only at a certain point in my journey. So that can be a bit scary, right, but that's the beauty of the journey is, you've got to highlight and understand that the idea of it is learning itself, like literally each day.

Speaker 1:

It's a new challenge. It's a new challenge. So it's a new challenge. It's a new obstacle, it's a new destination, it's a new opportunity. It's a new chance to do something different, or rinse and repeat, and what value can we get out of the day? But also, how can we transform the now into getting us to where we want to be. So that's my thoughts on it.

Speaker 1:

Like it's, learning is forever, but at the end of the day, for me, in order to grow my business, I've had to learn a lot of new things. I've had to apply new things, and the problems that I have today were not problems that I had two, three years ago, the problems that I had two, three years ago. They're just nothing. They don't worry me anymore, and that happens over time, right? So what you learn and then you apply becomes just rinse and repeat my challenge to you and this is a short and sweet episode because, at the end of the day, this is my experience but I wanted to challenge you and think about maybe what are your pain points or what are the things that you need to hear, or maybe there's some inspiration that I can provide for you. And the first thing, I think is you need to give yourself permission to evolve.

Speaker 1:

And for me, like I said, it's about the patience and it's about the stuck between the now and where I want to be, knowing what I want and how do I solve in between and how do I speed that up. The reality is, once you get to the end, you look back and think, wow, that went quick. So that's hindsight for you. But I want to reassure you that it's okay to still be in the process of not having all the answers. I'm talking to myself here, because if we have all the answers, things would be boring. The beauty is we get to go into each opportunity, solve the problem or experience what that process looks like, and then we get to learn something new and then we conquer the day, we get something fresh out of it. You become a better version of yourself. So with that, what are some of the practical ways that I probably do? It is, I think the key one is reflection On a regular basis, finding ways to be able to reflect.

Speaker 1:

Now I did an episode called Rose Thorn Bud, where we talk about what are some of the positive things that have been happening, what are some of the things that aren't necessarily working and what are some of the opportunities that are coming through. And you do that on a regular basis, whether it's weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannually or whatever, and it's going to help you navigate through those ongoing lessons. One thing that I wish I had done when I had started and it's a bit different now, but when I was working the nine to five is taking a journal or a log of what I've achieved each week as a graduate, as a manager, as a consultant, as an analyst. What were the things that I was able to achieve on a weekly progress, to be able to play back of what is the value I'm providing, that I was able to achieve on a weekly progress, to be able to play back of what is the value I'm providing. Now, it's not about the value I'm providing in the sense that I'm not valuable enough. It's more around that.

Speaker 1:

When you do your performance reviews, you need to be able to provide that information. But also it just gives you some really great, tangible understanding of you are making a difference when it comes to your personal life. The same thing what progress are you making? How can you track it? How can you reflect on it, to give yourself the space to be able to reward yourself, to say that you are making great progress because you are being willing to learn.

Speaker 1:

If you're not willing to learn, then there's no point even really taking in this episode, because learning is forever. If you think you know it all, you've got the wrong idea. I don't know it all. I'm literally doing these episodes for the lifestyle as I progress my own life. I don't know how to be better than now than other, than trying to be better each day. Once I'm a better version of myself, I can talk through how I got to that version, but it's very hard to be able to talk about things that I haven't done yet. So learning is forever. It's a journey and we all navigate it through different ways. So that's my thoughts on it. That's how I'm feeling.

Speaker 1:
