Speaker 1:

Yo yo yo. Welcome back to the Furrier Lifestyle podcast Conversations on Lifestyle, passions and Houses. My name's Chris, I am your host and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 138 today, and we're talking about how can you be courageous with your life, or how can you step out and be bold and take back control of your life. Now, one of the common threads that I've been speaking about across this entirety of this podcast since the beginning, especially more so in the last one year to six months, is the common thread around purpose, focus, end game and building a life that you want, aka furthering your lifestyle.

Speaker 1:

Now we all have the same amount of time each. We all have 24 hours every day and with that we have the power to obviously make our day significant or have a significant impact on how we spend and, you know, use that time. Everyone has that opportunity. What you do of it is up to you, right, and we've got to be responsible for it. We've got to be accountable for it. But when we know what we want, like an idea, a dream or a goal, we can start to, we can start to work towards it and the time that we have can be used and leveraged much better than if we did not know what we want, or if we have an idea, or if we have a dream or if we have a goal, because we don't know what we can do to start to work towards it. Now, it's also OK that when we start on a journey to go towards where we want to be, that if we realize that maybe it isn't all that we thought or maybe it isn't where we want it to be going and that's OK, because when we're able to go down a path and realize this is not what we want, it actually redirects us to the path that we do want. Therefore, you're actually still moving forward, right? Don't ever think that because you've you know, you've gone to university, you spent time becoming something, learning a skill or a trait, gaining knowledge, and then you go out into the workforce and then, all of a sudden, you don't want to do that job because it's not what you expected. Look, it's going to feel like there's going to be a lot of time wasted, but if anything, you've now told yourself no, this is not what I want to do, I'm going to go over here and you can probably still leverage the skills that you've acquired anyway. So it's not actually the end of the world In today's episode.

Speaker 1:

What we're actually going to be talking about and I do apologize, I'm just going to call this out you can probably hear frogs in the background. I don't know if you can, I can. They are very, very loud. We have a dam right next to us and this time of the year the frogs are just going crazy. So that's Greg, the frog that we call, because he just goes, goes around bopping all day. Anyway, I digress because it's distracting me, so I've got to call it out.

Speaker 1:

In today's episode, what we're going to go through are some very, very basic, yet very, very hard questions to help you set the pace for yourself to start working towards your North Star. Now, I have spoken about the North Star before. We've touched on this numerous times. We've even spoken about your end game, but that's what we're re addressing today. That's what we're revisiting today, and I've actually been able to pull together a bunch of different questions which will require you to revisit on a regular basis. Actually, if you wanted to challenge yourself and keep yourself really honest, you could actually revisit these daily, like go through. It's like a mantra almost, but you know it would be always good to reassess these and revisit these questions on a regular basis. It could be daily, it could be weekly, it could be monthly or whatever cadence for you makes sense, but it's basically here to keep yourself honest.

Speaker 1:

Now, some of these questions, or some of the answers to these questions, may stay the same for a very, very long time, whereas sometimes they will change and they might evolve, and that's OK. There's no right or wrong answer to this. The only way that you can answer it right is by answering it. So we're going to go through this and buckle up. It's going to be a little bit of a different experience today, and I might jump in with a few different examples or some of my own anecdotes or experiences. We're going to. We're going to go through it fluidly. So buckle up, let's roll the intro and let's get into it.

Speaker 1:

So the first question that I'm going to ask you and you might want to pause, you might want to take some time, you might want to get some pen and paper, or, if you're listening to this, you might just want to pause and think about it, right, and that's OK. This podcast might only be a 20 to 30 minute episode, but for you it might be an hour, right, and what you put into this is what you'll get out of it. So the first question that I want to ask you, and you need to ask yourself this, is what will I make happen within five years that matters more than anything, right? So when you ask yourself that question, what is it that you want in five years? I can't answer for you, but it could be. You want to own your house, you want to be married, you want to have kids, you want to be a certain level at your job, you want to be working for yourself, you want to be owning a business, you want to be running a business, you want to have invested, you want to be able to play the piano, you want to be able to run a marathon, you want to be able to sell your art online. I don't know. But what is it that you want in five years, and what will you make happen in five years that matters more than anything to you? Yeah, now, with all these questions, it's going to get very, very interesting very, very soon, and I'll tell you why shortly.

Speaker 1:

The next question is what will I make happen within one year that matters more than anything, right, you can see we've gone from long term to somewhat shorter term, right? And all of a sudden now things get a bit more real, because it's like it's less time, it's 365 days. What is the one thing you want to make happen this year, and it's more important than anything? And the next question is what will I make happen within one month? That matters more than anything. And then the last question of this is what can I do to start this day positively? That matters more than the rest. Now we've transitioned from what will I make happen in one month to how will I start my day positively. But the question that I will also further ask for this is what can I do today that's going to get me closer to where I want to be in one month of where I want to be closer in one year? What's going to get me closer to where I want to be in one year? That's going to get me closer to where I want to be in five years.

Speaker 1:

I've had conversations with people and I've bought this over up over the last couple of weeks where people tell me they want to be doing these things in a year's time or a two years time or five years time. But if you're not doing anything today that's actually working towards getting you to that point, where do you expect the difference to happen? Like the delta, the gap in between? Where do you expect things to just fall into place? They're not going to fall into place. You need to be doing something.

Speaker 1:

So the question you can ask yourself and it might be what can I do today is to start the day positively. That matters more than the rest. That might be doing the one thing that you need to get done. That's going to ensure that you can get the one thing that you want to get done in this month. To ensure that you're going to get the one thing done that you want to get done this year. To ensure that you only get the things that you want in five years time. It's a lot to take in. It's very deep, it's very overwhelming, but when you have the understanding of that and you've got the conviction with it, it makes the journey so much easier. It makes waking up and knowing what you're doing having purpose, it gives you a sense of focus and it means you're going to be happy to be doing what you're doing.

Speaker 1:

Now we're going to move on to some other questions. What will I ensure gets done today that further develops my main craft skill, mastery, which matters more than anything else in this area? Right, what will I ensure gets done today? What can you do today? What will you do today that further your further develops your main craft skill, which matters more than anything else in this area? Again, this is going to help you get to all these other areas. So, what is the one thing?

Speaker 1:

So, if you wanting to train for a marathon, well, it means you're going to have to go out and do the running today, or you're going to have to go out and do the cross training today, or you're going to have to go out and you know practice doing some reps, or I don't know. Right, it depends on what it is. If you're learning an instrument, what reps are you putting in today? You get my point and with this, you want to be specific enough to be able to choose something that gets done in its entirety, meaning maybe you're going to read 15 books of a page, or maybe you're going to draw for 30 minutes, or you're going to do a 10 minute video, or you're going to do 40 minutes of running, or you're going to do a thousand words journaling, do something very specific to ensure that you are getting in those reps that are requiring you, that are enabling you to get to where you want to be. The next question from that is when exactly will you get this done Today? When exactly will you get this done?

Speaker 1:

And then, in addition to this is in addition to my craft development work, what are the three tasks that must get done today? Now, this might actually be something else outside of. You know all those important things of what you want to be doing, where you want to be going, but you want to list them in order of priority, and it's a vice that you work through them, starting with the most difficult. I forget the I think it's Brian Tracy in. Here's a book about. You know, eat that frog and you want to. You want to do the toughest thing, the hardest thing, that requires the most effort and attention. The first thing, because once that's done, you feel like you've won the day. And the next thing start rolling through with the punches, meaning you're going to be able to snowball effect on those. So you're going to pick the three tasks that you must get done today and do them in the order of priority. Right, so now we're going to dive into something to keep you honest in helping others.

Speaker 1:

Who can I connect with today Whose life would be improved by your doing so? Right, so who can I connect with today whose life would be improved by you doing so? You answered this and this this is a bit of a weird one because it sounds like, oh, you're just trying to, you know, talk to people to show that you're going to make their lives better. That's not the intention. The intention is showing a bit of, you know, gratitude, blessing, giving back, helping others, giving empathy out and helping other people. So who can you connect to today that's going to help them further their life?

Speaker 1:

The next question is who are three people or more or more, depending on your time that I will connect with today to generate opportunities in my life in the areas that matter the most today. A lot of the time we we talk about how I want to do this, I want to do that, and I'm a big victim of this is we. We figure we try to figure it out by ourselves, but if we just ask people and have a conversation with people that are already doing it, already done it or way ahead of us. It enables us to jump, you know, quite a few steps, to jump the mistakes, to get past some of the fluff that we don't realize how to get over, and that's why connecting with people is so important. So who are three people that you can connect with today to generate opportunities in your life in the areas that matter the most today, to get you to where you want to be in one month, where you want to be in one year, where you want to be in where you want to be in five years? What could I do that would enrich my social life, which matters more than anything else today. And I think this one is important because there's an element of social life which isn't about going out and parting, but going out and just having that interaction, that connection with other people, and sometimes it might be just catching up with a friend for coffee, sometimes it might be going out with a group of friends, might be experiencing something with a loved one. Whatever it may be, what could I do that will enrich my social life today?

Speaker 1:

The next one is what will I do today that scares me, takes me out of my comfort zone, that I know will improve me and my life. This is a tough one because I feel like there's always an opportunity to do things that scare us and get us out of our comfort zones every day. But we either choose to or we choose not to. If you're out running and there's a hill ahead of you, you ask yourself the question am I going to run up this hill? Now, if you don't ask yourself that question, there's a high chance that you're just going to walk it. But if you ask yourself am I going to run up this hill? And you say yes, you will find this extra ability to push through that challenge and get yourself out of the comfort zone, and you want to prove to yourself that you can do it. Try it. Try it with the question will I do this, yes or no? So what will you do to get you out outside of your comfort zone today or that scares you, to improve your life? So the next one is what big ask will I make today? Now, this is very broad, but essentially what we're saying here is what could you ask from someone that could lead to a huge opportunity in your life? And you'll be surprised by what might happen.

Speaker 1:

When I was originally doing my podcast guests and reaching out to different guests and having them on, which I need to really do again. I just haven't had the time for it, I haven't prioritized the time. But you know, reaching out and it's like, oh, it'd be cool to have one of the big names. You know someone that's you know 10 times my following, or 10, or who has a large following, you're like, oh, but would they accept me? Or, you know, would they, would they be willing to do it? And I reached out to three people, two of them. I got a reply from. They all were sitting around 40 and 50,000 followers. Now they replied. Unfortunately, they were booked until a long period of time and I think that's fair game and it never did happen for other reasons, which is fine. But they responded and I got a response.

Speaker 1:

So when we, when we don't ask, you're always going to get no, you're always never going to get the results you want. But when you do ask, it might give you insight, it might give you the opportunity, it might be more than what you expect. So ask, and the way you can do this is what is your big ask? Which one person will you ask and who else could you ask if that person doesn't work out. Now I always think about if you've got three people and you ask three people, the same big ask hey, if you've got all three people saying yes, even better. But if you've got one out of three, that's cool. So that way you've got a higher chance of actually making it happen. But obviously understand that if you do ask three people and they also yes, is that going to impact you, because you can only pick one. So just make sure you take them into consideration so you do not waste people's time.

Speaker 1:

We've got two more questions, guys. The next one is what will I do today that will benefit my health or state of mind? That matters more than anything, and the reason why this is so important is because when we're working towards where we want to be going, you're running just constantly. You're always on, and it might be because you're doing two things, meaning you're working for someone else and then you're trying to build the life you want, or you are just trying to build the life you want, and there's lots of things coming on. You're responsible, you're accountable for your own life, so you need to make sure that you're doing things that is going to keep yourself healthy and your state of mind in the right place. So what will you do today that matters more than anything, that's going to benefit your state of mind and your health. Sometimes that might be just taken a day off or spending an hour going for a walk, or it might be doing some exercise or might be playing some video games, it might be just switching off, I don't know, it might be just eating. Right, you got to answer this.

Speaker 1:

The last one is what will I do today to expand my extracurricular world, even if it is just for 10 minutes? And I think this one is a great way to expand what we do not know into something that we could extracurricular. You know, it could be anything. It could be taking up a hobby, it could be starting a veggie garden, it could be going fishing, it could be trying skateboarding, it could be just playing video games, it could be any of those different things. But make sure you bring those things into your life on a regular basis, a constant basis, a consistent basis, even if it is for 10 minutes, to ensure that you do have that flow of balance in your life, because with all these other things we've just spoken about, all these things you've got to be doing, to prioritize for today, to prioritize for the month, to prioritize for the year, to prioritize for the next five years.

Speaker 1:

It's a lot to take in. It's a lot, but when you have that inflow, when you have that in order, you're able to then be able to know that I know what I'm doing today and I know that if I keep doing this, it's going to get me where I want to be in 30 days and if I keep doing that, that's going to continue to get me to where I need to be going for, where I want to be in a year's time, and so on and so forth, and it will adjust. It will change because you learn more information, you get more information. Things change, challenges arise, but you're able to then pivot and adjust. And if you could document this, if you could track this for yourself, you'll be surprised of reading back of where you are from a year ago to now and looking over that one day to 30 days to 30 days to a year, from a year to five years. It will blow your mind. So that's what.

Speaker 1:

That's what that's it today how to be courageous with your life. And I encourage you to go back and go through these points and reread them, ask yourself them. Do this. If you want to result, do it. If you don't want to result, don't do it. The big question is to you are you going to be courageous with your life? Are you going to go through and fill out these questions, yes or no? Appreciate you being here. If you've got any questions, comments you want to continue the conversation? Chuck something down below here on the YouTube comments. Otherwise you can reach out to myself more than happy to continue the conversation and, yeah, if this resonated with you, send it to someone you know, share it with someone or share it to your feed and challenge others to take upon them to do this exact same little test, this little challenge to really see what they're doing, where they're going and if it actually aligns to what they think they want or where they're going. Appreciate you all. You have a wonderful day, thanks.
